Meet the Capital
Electric team:

“Helping customers make smart decisions, being easy to work with and getting them material or answers fast is what will set us apart from other distributors”

Meet the Capital Electric Team: Mike Heller, Outside Sales Representative

For Mike, joining Capital Electric wasn’t a leap, it was the next logical step.

With 25 years in the electrical and low-voltage world, the last decade squarely in structured cabling,  Mike is no stranger to the tech, the tools or the teamwork it takes to serve contractors well. After building out a low-voltage division at a previous job, he was ready for a place with the right support – and the right people.

“Capital Electric already has the products, the systems and the market presence, so now I can really help customers the way I wanted to before. Plus, Capital Electric is the kind of company where you don’t disappear like you can in a giant corporation, while still having the resources to fulfill customer needs.”

In just a few weeks on the team, he’s already had face time with all of our departments, sitting down with teams to learn the full flow of the business and get hands-on with the products, vendors and systems Capital carries.

It's all part of a bigger mission to connect customers with smarter, faster and easier solutions – “I thrive on being relied upon and having the opportunity to help people and introduce them to new technologies every day.

A team-first environment

Although Mike is new to the company, he’s already picked up on a defining quality of Capital Electric: no one has to fly solo.

“You never have to feel alone here. Everyone is always ready to help,” he says. “It’s very communicative. Everybody has a direct hand in what we’re trying to accomplish, and everyone is dedicated to servicing the customer. It’s an environment of positivity and good attitudes!”

That culture of collaboration drew him in and made him confident about the road ahead. “Helping our partners grow helps Capital Electric grow. Helping customers make smart decisions, being easy to work with and getting them materials or answers fast is what will set us apart.”

Coaching, connection and character

Outside of work, Mike spends a lot of time coaching his daughters in basketball and volleyball. It’s more than a hobby, it’s shaped how he approaches people, both professionally and personally.

“Coaching has definitely helped and influenced my work. It teaches me patience, empathy and understanding. It helps me listen,” he says. “You have to ask a lot of clarifying questions when you’re trying to figure out what’s going on inside a 4th grader’s mind.”

That instinct to lead, support and encourage translates into sales too.

For Mike, it’s all about showing up for people: family, teammates, partners, and customers alike.

Heavy lifts and lighter moments

When he’s not coaching, Mike’s likely in the gym. A competitive powerlifter, he holds meet day numbers strong enough to win his age group in Wisconsin: a 407 bench, 555 squat and 635 deadlift. Impressive.

But not everything is about numbers. He also finds joy in the simplicity of yard work:

“Cutting the grass. Trimming the yard. Getting vitamin D. It’s my zen mode.”

We get it.

And yes, he’s a proud cat dad. Four cats, to be exact. Don’t judge.

Sales wisdom from his three daughters (and Elsa)

Ask him for a favorite piece of advice and you won’t get a quote from a sales manual or a business book. You’ll get Elsa. If you have daughters, you probably know Frozen well too.

“I have two quotes,” he says. “They’re from Anna and Elsa of Arendelle. It may seem silly taking quotes from a kid’s Disney movie, but in sales, I find it’s best to ‘do the next right thing’ if you have a bad meeting, rejection, etc. and don’t take anything personal, just ‘let it go.’ Move on to the next thing you can impact and have a positive influence on.”

“The amount of movie quotes I use is probably more than surprising. Maybe shocking. But not quite disturbing,” he notes with a laugh.

That mix of humor, humility and grounded perspective is already making Mike a great fit for us at Capital Electric and we’re excited for you to meet him!
