Meet the Capital
Electric team:
"When you work for big companies, you can get lost. At Capital, you don't get lost. They don't lose you. They've got your back when you're working on something. And as Mike says, "If we can't fulfill it, we'll be glad to help you find somebody who can”. That's definitely Capital; they've got your back and they'll help you out"
Meet the Capital Electric Team: Kim Ninneman, The Steady Hand Behind the Scene
Kim might not be the first face you see when you walk into Capital Electric, but her presence is felt in every corner of the company.
With 25 years of dedication, she’s the glue that holds many of the behind-the-scenes operations together, ensuring everything runs smoothly for customers and team members alike.
Here’s a closer look at the woman who describes herself as the "big sister" of the Capital Electric family.
The Heart of Administration
As Office Manager, Kim’s responsibilities span accounts payable and receivable, reception and a boatload of other administrative tasks. But to call her a “paper pusher,” as she jokingly describes herself, wouldn’t do her justice.
Kim’s work is all about the personal touch that’s so rare to come by in today’s world.
“When someone calls in, they get to talk to a real person,” Kim says, “not a voicemail because it's about caring for our customers".
But her role goes beyond fielding calls. Kim is also the go-to person for her colleagues. Whether ordering supplies, troubleshooting issues or stepping up when Mary and Mike are away, Kim is the steady hand everyone turns to.
“If you have a question, you go to Kim,” she says. “I’ll figure it out or find out who can.”
A Collaborative Spirit
One of Kim’s favorite aspects of her role is working alongside Mary Harpster. “I work a lot with Mary. Love that! We’re always on the same page and when we’re not, we get creative and figure it out together”.
That collaborative energy reflects the close-knit, family-oriented culture of Capital Electric.
For Kim, Capital is a place where people genuinely care about one another. “You’re not just working under someone; you’re working with them,” she explains. “It’s a small family atmosphere where everyone has each other’s backs.”Resilience and Adaptability
Over the years, Kim has seen significant changes in tech (haven't we all!) and operations at Capital Electric.
“When I started, I had this big, clunky computer on my desk. Now I have three screens and a laptop,” she says with a laugh. “If you’d told me that 25 years ago I would’ve totally freaked out. Now, I can’t imagine working without it!”
From upgrading phone systems to mastering new billing software, Kim has embraced every challenge with resilience and a willingness to adapt.
You figure it out, and before long, it becomes second nature.
The can-do attitude is another Capital staple.
A Heart for Giving Back
Kim’s commitment to the community aligns perfectly with Capital.
One event that's been particularly close to her heart is the annual Coats for Kids drive.
“It’s such a basic need and it feels good to know we’re helping people in our community stay warm.”
Her focus on giving back extends beyond organized events. Kim’s empathy and dedication shine through in everything she does, whether it’s supporting the team or ensuring invoices are accurate to avoid unnecessary stress for customers.
A Testament to Capital’s Values
Kim’s personal journey at Capital Electric is a testament to what makes Capital so special; the care and connection we have with each other.
In her first month on the job, she faced a life-altering tragedy with the loss of her husband.
“I’d only been here a month,” she recalls, "but people from Capital showed up at the funeral and rallied behind me during that first year, understanding how difficult it was to raise kids by yourself. They’ve had my back ever since."
No one at Capital is just another employee, no matter how long they've been with us.
Looking Ahead
Outside of work, Kim enjoys spending time with her two sons and two grandchildren, as well as traveling to new destinations. Ireland has been a favorite, with Scotland next on her bucket list.
“I’d love to explore the culture and try some of the local scotch".
Cheers to that!
With her unwavering commitment, collaborative spirit and genuine care for others, Kim exemplifies what makes Capital Electric more than just a workplace – it’s a family.
